The purpose of this employment training program is to provide people age 55 years with meaningful employment in nonprofit or public organizations in their community while they look for permanent full time or part time employment. Participants continue to contribute to the community and remain viable members of the workforce, while learning new work skills or enhancing their current skill sets. Participants are a value to local organizations and their clients.

Tracey Burak serves as the Director of Social Services and Admissions as well as being a Certified Geriatric Care Manager, while Zee Chamliss serves as Director of Nursing. In this show, we learn about what exactly “geriatric care management” means as well as how families and loved ones can utilize the services they provide. From social work to psychology an many other areas in between, geriatric care managers help plan, assess, monitor, and advocate for senior adults in a way that’s personal to their specific needs. This week on Radio 4 the Ages we had on several guests from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Centers. Charlotte has four great senior centers including Tyvola Senior Center, Shamrock Senior Center, North Mecklenburg Senior Center, and West Side Senior Services at Betty Rae Thomas Center. We heard from representatives from the senior centers tell us about what programs they offer ranging from computer classes to ping pong to tai chi. We also heard from actual participants from the senior centers who shared their experience at the senior centers. We had a full house and covered several other topics related to the senior centers.
