David’s Discourse today is a fun and introspective look at the aging process; it’s foibles, vagaries, and humorous acknowledgements. It’s not worth one drop of angst; it’s to be celebrated. After all, if you’re not aging, then you’ve left the “green side of God’s good earth”.
My special guest co-host is Claire Cobb. Claire was with me a few weeks ago, but the entire show was lost (technology ‘big-foot’) and so I had her back on the program. Claire has a J.D. degree, a Masters in Social Work, and she is a licensed clinical social worker- a very talented individual. My guest for the last hour is Mandy Stamper, the Campus Administrator at Westminster Towers, a continuum of care retirement community in Rock Hill, SC. Mandy has a background in social work as well.
The show centered around the role that social workers play in improving the quality of life for our older adults; how to recognize warning signs of depression and self-neglect, and agencies to contact for assistance. We also touched on depression and noted that the highest percentage of successful suicides are in the 65+ age group.
Mandy described the Person Centered Care focus at Westminster Towers, and the training her staff receives to achieve that distinguished recognition.
Thanks for listening, and for being an integral part of Radio 4 the Ages!
